Divi users, we hear you β€” the wait for Divi 5 has been a long one. But this delay isn’tΒ caused by missteps or indecision. It’s a deliberate choice to prioritize quality over rushing an unfinished product.

Divi 5 represents a complete core rewrite, ditching outdated shortcodes for a modern codebase that enhances speed and performance. We have already released a ton of new Divi 5 features, which will make your website-building experience a lot more enjoyable.

By arriving fashionably late, Divi 5 ensures stability, innovation, and a seamless user experience. And we’re welcoming everyone to start using Divi 5 whenever they’re ready, because Divi 5 is ready to be used on new websites today.

Building Divi 5 With The Community In Mind

Divi 5

Divi 5 is a collaborative effort shaped by the vibrant Divi community. From day one, third-party developers have been empowered with a new Builder API, enabling them to create custom modules and extensions using the same tools we used.

Early access during the Developer Alpha and integration with the Divi Marketplace ensure third-party extensions will work seamlessly, minimizing disruptions once you switch from Divi 4 to Divi 5. Ongoing API and module refinements strengthen the ecosystem, while feedback channels and a phased rollout let users and developers actively shape Divi 5’s future, creating a platform that truly serves everyone.

Reasons Why Divi 5 Is Fashionably Late To The Party

Divi 5’s delay is a strategic choice to deliver the best Divi 5 we can, and allow people to jump in as soon as they feel ready. A complete rebuild of Divi’s foundation replaces shortcodes with a modern framework, ensuring scalability and future-proofing.

Performance is a priority, too, with optimizations designed to produce lightning-fast websites. Fueled by community feedback, iterative testing refines features to meet more modern web design standards. Meanwhile, extra time allows third-party developers to adapt plugins, minimizing disruptions to the ecosystem.

1. We’re Honoring The Past With Backwards Compatibility

With thousands of users relying on our product, we understand the importance of being able to migrate existing Divi 4 sites when the time comes. That’s why Divi 5 is built with a steadfast commitment to backward compatibility, ensuring existing Divi websites remain secure and operational. A robust system lazy-loads the Divi 4 framework for unsupported modules. We recently introduced an improved backward compatibility for Divi 5, so you’ll have an even better and more bug-free experience when transitioning from Divi 4 to Divi 5.

Backward compatibility preserves functionality without forcing immediate overhauls. This ensures you can confidently upgrade to Divi 5 while honoring the past. Use Divi 5 on new websites only, as migration readiness is targeted for Beta or full release. Once perfected, the migration tool will ensure a seamless transition, honoring your past builds without losing any of your past work.

The Divi 5 Migration System

Divi 5 Migrator

Transitioning to Divi 5 is designed to be smooth, thanks to a robust migration system. The Divi 5 Migrator automatically parses Divi 4 shortcodes, converting them to the new storage format, while the Readiness System scans your site to flag compatibility issues with modules, templates, and plugins.

Are you worried about potential hiccups? A rollback option lets you easily revert to Divi 4. Still in development for existing sites, this system ensures users can upgrade confidently, knowing their sites won’t break during the leap to Divi 5’s modern framework.

2. We’ve Created Divi 5 To Lead Innovation Once Again

We could have rushed Divi 5, but quality trumps speed. Prioritizing a polished product prevents headaches for low-maintenance clients who rely on dependable updates. Divi 5 delivers faster front-end load times, a snappier Visual Builder, and powerful features like Attribute Management and modular architecture for streamlined, flexible design.

We are building a reliable, user-friendly platform by rejecting the just release it mentality. This deliberate approach ensures Divi 5 isn’t just another update, it’s a refined tool that allows users to build websites with stability and innovation, ready to meet the demands of modern web design.

Divi 5Β improves with each update and is ready to be used on new websites today.Β This post explains more about the five-phase release schedule that comes with Divi 5 (note: we’re almost at the finish line).

3. A Phased Rollout Provides Flexibility For All Users

Divi 5’s rollout is thoughtfully staged to suit every user, not just developers. Our phased approach lets members join when ready. New features include Advanced Units for CSS flexibility, Module Groups for reusable designs, and Design Variables for global styling. We have fixed hundreds of bugs and are finalizing the Loop Builder, Flexbox, and Divi’s 20+ Woo modules.

Public Beta is expected soon, with a full release anticipated by late 2025 or early 2026. This will cater to early adopters and cautious users, ensuring no one is left behind.

4. We’re Aiming For A Bug-Minimized Experience

Divi 5’s new framework unlocks dramatic performance gains, from faster load times to a smoother builder experience. The Alpha phase, however, is about ironing out the kinks, as bugs are expected and part of iterative development. Through testing and community feedback, we minimize bugs and aim to deliver a stable product. A dedicated team swiftly addresses reported issues, enhancing reliability with each update.

While no software is truly bug-free, this rigorous process ensures Divi 5 launches with minimal hiccups. This gives users a dependable platform to create beautiful, high-performing websites confidently.

5. We’re Including Thorough Documentation For A Seamless Launch

Divi 5 roadmap

We are paving the way for Divi 5’s success with documentation. Tutorials on our blog, API references, YouTube videos, and detailed roadmap empower users and developers, while D4-t0-D5 module conversion guides make transitioning accessible for all skill levels. These resources help explain Divi 5’s features, from the upcoming features to modular architecture, fostering learning and adoption.

By investing in clear, robust documentation, we strengthen the Divi community. This ensures everyone can access Divi 5’s full potential from day one, making the fashionably late launch seamless.

6. We’re Building A Divi For The Future Of WordPress

Divi 5’s delay has enabled us to revamp WordPress page building with a sleek, intuitive, faster Visual Builder. Features like the Loop Builder for dynamic layouts, Design Variables, Flexbox, and Module Groups align Divi with WordPress’s future. This delay isn’t just about perfection; it’s about delivering a platform that sets a new standard for WordPress page builders.

Divi 5 Is Ready To Take The Lead

Yes, the wait for Divi 5 has been long, but our Alpha updates prove it’s worth it. Innovative features like Design Variables for global styling, modular architecture for flexibility, and ditching shortcodes are the Divi of the future. We encourage you to try the Public Alpha on a new website and let us know your thoughts. Your feedback is essential for shaping its final release. Divi 5’s fashionably late arrival isn’t just an update. It’s a bold step to raise the bar for Divi users and how they build websites with WordPress.

  1. Can we get a full list of known working divi plugins centrally please.

I understand it’s down to individual plugin developers to update them to meet DIVi 5 requirements but as users it would be hugely helpful to have a list of plugins that work for new sites built on 5.

    • I too would appreciate having that list. But… IMHO… it’s up to the individual plug-in publishers to determine and communicate their own Divi-5 compatibility, not ET’s job to check every plug-in on WP for compatibility. JM2C

    • We published some articles in the last couple of weeks showing progress of a few different plugins (1 | 2 | 3). As to a list, there are too many to cover and it changes weekly. Best to check directly with the 3rd party tools you rely on.

  2. Anyone complaining about delays needs to download D5 and start using it on your own burner site. You’ll quickly discover both the magic AND mystery of D5, and you may even decide that the current pace of dev and rollout is quite well advised. Not because of problems, but because there is a LOT of NEW stuff going on under the hood and this is the BEST time to learn as much as you can. Simply using Divi-5 as an “update” to Divi-4 is missing the boat completely. This is NOT just a cleaner-faster UI for the Divi Visual Builder. The Divi-5 theme framework is monumentally more capable and powerful than Divi-4. I already have a few sites on D5 (some burners, one real) and have not even begun to scratch the surface of what D5 can do !!! It’s not perfect, but it IS a massive step forward for ET and Divi users everywhere. JM2C…
