A Sneak Peek of Two Upcoming Themes

For those interested in what’s to come here at ElegantThemes, I have put together a few screenshots of two new themes that are in the works. Alongside the creation of these themes, as well as MyApp (which should be ready any day now), we have also been working hard on updating all themes for WordPress 3.0. I will post more details about this in the future. In the meantime, be sure to take a look at the following previews and let me know what you think!

DelicateNews Theme

I was quite pleased with our most recent theme, TheSource, but also realized that its graphic nature was not suitable for all “news” sites. Its bold colors and flashy effects are great, but what about those looking for a more subtle design? For this reason I’ve decided to create a second magazine-style theme that has a more simple, refined, and “delicate” presence. DelicateNews will be a great theme for those looking to publish loads of content while still maintaining a clean, professional and news-like appearance.

LightBright Theme

With the increasing popularity of tumblr and other micro-blogging/blog-hybrid portals, I thought it would be a great idea to create a theme with similar functionality using WordPress 3.0’s advancement of custom post types. I have noticed similar themes being created by other developers, and have had some requests for tumblr-style themes. With that in mind, I started developing LightBright. The concept behind the theme is to make the publishing of various types of content (photos, videos, quotes, links, notes, etc) easier by creating custom layouts for each. Each post type will have a unique set of form fields that can be used when creating the post that pertains to its unique content type.

Be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think about the new designs. I am always interested in the opinions that the community here at ElegantThemes has to offer.

  1. It’s cool, I think you think about adding social support for the big services (fb, twitter, youtube, flicker, linkedIn) to every site from now on. I know a news service requires this, I’ve worked at a publisher and it’s seriously relied on in the digital sphere. Thanks!

    • Definitely agree with the social support need!

  2. Looks nice, might even resubscribe to your theme membership!

  3. I love the simplicity of the Delicate News Theme.

Plus the “date” on the featured images is a real nice touch.

    Great work!

    Looking forward to it’s release.

    Take care.

    Stu

  4. Wow the news theme is stunning, one of the best yet I think.

  5. These two themes along with your others look awesome. I have told my wife that I want your themes for my birthday :-)

    • Glad to hear it :)

    • Excellent gift!

      and happy birthday David :)

  6. Loving the Delicate News Theme, not to sure about lightbright.

    Excellent work.

  7. The DelicateNews Theme Look awesome however the LightBright Theme look similar to the latest Personal press theme

    • It’s similar in style. The main difference will be in functionality.

  8. Absolutely stunning as always. Keep up the great designing!

  9. As usual, GREAT work. I’ll be waiting for the themes.

  10. Very nice!

  11. The problem with TheSource is that its so big. The feature slider is basicly the only thing you see when entering a TheSource site. I wish the sizes and text was more like in Grungemag. Hopefully your new theme will solve that!

    • I agree. The pure size of theSource was the main reason we never implemented it at our MMO news site.

So please Nick, use smaler sizes and fonts in the next news theme.

  12. They look awesome, as always. I’m looking forward LightBright theme, it suits perfectly my conception for a “modern” blog. Keep up the great work!

  13. …. is the “MyAppTheme” ever gonna happen ?

  14. Nice work as usual – I look forward to having a play with the Lighbright theme as I’m yet to try WP3’s post types.

  15. Wow, both themes are amazing. The darker one looks great. I’m a big fan of your work.

  16. Amazing…Will be joining soon…Can I use your themes for clients?

  17. Nice work as always, Nick.

Looking forward to playing around with both themes.

Pleased to see you have considered a ‘softer’ magazine theme to add to the portfolio.

  18. On what date will be available DelicateNews? It’s great!

    • There is no release date set at the moment. But I hope to have it finished by the end of the month.

      • Thank!

  19. This is bloody awesome Nick, both are so cool, but I prefer the light theme “DelicateNews Theme”

  20. Wow, Nick these themes are freaking awesome. I can not wait to get a hold of these once they are released!

    Light-bright is very “tumbler-ish”…its cool!

    Good luck finishing these up.

  21. Love both themes! Very slick.

Do you have a release date for either upcoming themes?

    • Nothing specific, but I hope to have them ready by the end of the month.

      • I was about to get started with my own website using one of your othr themes, but now I decided to wait till the Delicate News theme is up.
It looks smooth, stylish, efficient. Absolutely smashing.

  22. Nice! :)

  23. I was hoping you would be doing something different then the stuff you are already doing, we need a little adversity here. Possibly another Evid theme.

  24. As always, very nicely designed, aesthetically pleasing themes.

The DelicateNews theme is particularly appealing, I have a couple of sites I can use it on straight away!

  25. Hi Nick,

It is my first month with ET and my redesign using the Source has seen an immediate jump in pages per visit, time on site, etc. All of my numbers have jumped, thanks.

The new themes look terrific. I still have two redesigns to go. One will likely be Minimal. The other not sure.. .maybe Delicate News.

  26. very nice and clean magazine themes for DelicateNews Theme

  27. After some changes and tweaking I was about to launch my E-magazine with the WhosWho theme. Then The Source came a long, so I decided to implement it instead. Now I´ll have to wait with the launch until Delicate News is ready. ;-) Nick and friends are really pouring out some quality work here!

  28. Hi Nick , i really like these themes!
When i walk trough your gallery i see your themes evolving with every new release! Really great job!
The Social options in LightBright are a super , cant wait!

  29. Waiting for the LightBright theme! Looks awesome – I sure hope there’s a black variant :D

    Kevin

    • I’ll certainly keep it in mind :)

  30. This is the best thing ever. Nick do you have any ideea when the thumblr theme is coming? thx a lot for the awsome themes..and keep up the good job

    • Hopefully in ~3 weeks.

  31. Again really beautiful themes. Though they are all very magazine looking – which isn’t what I like for personal blogs…

  32. Oh my, LightBright can’t come soon enough!

And Delicate News makes me wanna create a new blog just to get to use it!!

You amaze me, Nick! I’m proud of being a member here. Keep up with the good work! :)

  33. Hey Nick,

Both designs looks fantastic but I have a question. Why are you using condensed font in navigation in tumblog theme and expanded font in sidebar? Don’t you think that its not good for readability. According to my knowledge it is against rules of web typography.

And If I am wrong then do let me know. I would be more than happy to learn from you.:)

    • I think the font size is plenty big enough. Even though the font is condensed, it is not difficult to read.

  34. GREAT & Beautiful work~~!!

    I will waiting …wating.. Ha Ha ~~

  35. DelicateNews Theme is great and can be used for making newspaper site

  36. Can’t wait! Especially for “Delicate.” It’s really delicate! OMG!

  37. Is it wrong that the part I am most excited about is the fact that you used Futurama in your example video post? Great work as usual!

    • New season coming soon!

      • Wait…new season coming soon? Hell yeah.

        • 1 word… awesomesauce! :D

  38. I guess you have pretty strong main framework to work with each theme, never think to release it? haha

  39. Beyond imagination
    اكثر من جميل

  40. I must have DelicateNews, it’s perfect!! Looking forward to that release Nick.

  41. looking forward to boyh themes! I love tumblr-styled.

  42. Really nice theme. When will you get it done? Looking forward to try it.

    • There is no set release date, as usual. But I plan to have them finished in ~3 weeks.

  43. I love them! I have always liked your themes because they are easy to use and clean. Thanks Nick

  44. Great idea with the custom post types. Getting the greatest audience impact out of each type of media posted is paramount. Concept looks fantastic :-)

Lovely design (as always) but not too sure about the color ;-)

  45. Fantastic as always.

  46. Will the LightBright Theme have different colored themes

    • Yeah, our themes always come with alternate colorschemes.

  47. Have you ever considered making a theme for web hosting? I know a lot of people need those and they are usually very expensive.

    • Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll certainly consider it.

  48. Nick, Regarding the first theme.

How many categories content can we show in the slider?

Also ever thought of creating a pure magazine style theme?

Like showing the most recent post from a category with large top thumbnail and just below that a few more posts from that particular category with small left side thumbnails.

And replicate the concept with 4-6 default categories along with the option to add more categories through admin panel and they will just add up in the content area. You can also give the option whether a category block will consume whole content space (with first post on left with large top thumbnail and rest on right side with small left aligned post thumbnails.) or a column with 2 default columns in content area like you have in most of your themes (this will have most recent at top from that category with large top image and rest of them just below that with small left aligned thumb images.

This will give complete freedom of showing content in a customized way from as many categories as one need.

Where as featured stuff can be displayed at top either in a slider or the new header the first theme has.

please do consider this idea. And if you want I can make a sketch from your existing theme and email it to you.

  49. What to say??? They are fantastic! When do you think to release those themes?
    Great work Nick ;)

  50. Hui,

    thats is very nice :)

  51. DelicateNews looks very great! I’m getting my website up using Glow and wish DelicateNews is released yesterday!

  52. news theme looks so good, cant wait to see it nick, well done.

  53. As always, awesome themes. I can’t wait until they come out. You guys are truly talented!

  54. A Tumblr-style theme sounds awesome. Though, it would be nice if you could add similar functionality to all of your themes. Even though you wouldn’t want to use all of them as a Tumblr-style site theme, you could make good use of the different post styles in many of the themes, especially the special Links post style … I love how Tumblr lets you link the title to an article, and then have your thoughts about it below! Just a thought, though not too sure how hard/easy it would be to integrate.

Hey, you ought to try out making real Tumblr themes for Tumblr itself … that would be real cool, too :)

    • I definitely plan to explore tumblr. Once I have created a system for making Tumblr-style wordpress themes, it will be easy to translate those themes over to tumblr.

      • I’m so excited to see you have a Tumblr-style theme in the works. Definitely interested in that as I LOVE using Tumblr and have been looking for a WP theme with that kind of functionality. I’ll be watching for the release. Thanks!

      • That would be really cool … I’ll be excited to see how they turn out. Tumblr themes actually look simpler to code than WordPress themes…

  55. Price and value than the highest elegantthemes

  56. Nick, why are you always avoiding questions regarding the eShop theme? what happened?

    • I’m still working on it. To be honest I became unhappy with the last design, and have decided to start from scratch. It will likely be the next theme released, after these two.

  57. Beautiful work. Will you ever make your site’s theme available? That’s the one I like.

    • Maybe someday, after I re-design ElegantThemes :)

      • : )

It’s so hard to choose, but I think Delicate News is going to be my choice. There aren’t a lot of themes that are perfect fits for academic or science sites, but this one is pretty close! Can’t wait.

  58. loved it!
can wait for the second one!

  59. Love the new themes, cant wait to use them.

  60. For LightBright, you might consider changing the background colour, which to me seems too dark…

    • The theme will surely come with alternate color schemes, so I will see what I can do.

  61. Delicate theme looks great. I like the more minimilist, light designs and I’ll be using this one as soon as its out the door!

  62. DelicateNews looks great. That’ll be my theme, for sure. Nicely done.

  63. All Both Very Fine. Good work. Is already fixed a date when they appear?

    • Not at the moment, but they should be done in less than a month.

  64. I realy like the second one!! is it possible to make the post body width ( where the posts are posted ) bigger? Can i do that myself?

  65. I really love the looks of DelicateNews Theme! It’s clean, simple and well-organize! Awesome!

  66. OMG Delicate might make me scrap my work on customizing Who’s Who. I LOVE IT!

  67. I want to say how thrilled I am at the elegant themes site and services/designs etc.
It is a real joy to use the themes and to see how much you take pride in what you do.
I will be making a number of websites this year and your site enables me to provide my readers with aesthetic style/theme ambiance with my relatively limited tech skills so far.
I always look forward to seeing your new creations.
    Thank you so very much.
    :-))

    • Thanks Michael, I’m glad to hear it!

  68. Hey Nick, the new DelicateNews magazine style looks very interesting, as I have been in total awe with TheSource. What I like about this new one is the date is not covering the thumbs, smaller slider, and images above that slider. It would be a nice feature if the ‘images above slider’ would rotate too, like TheSource. Wondering if it will have homepage, one, two columns like that of TheSource, which I think are fantastic — maybe shouldn’t add to many more options cos, I spend more time swapping templates, and getting no content into my site. lol. It cos, you do put allot of thought and functionality into your themes. Absolutely fantastic work!!! I have allot of ppl ask about your themes due to the clean, modern design of them. Looking forward to the new one. All the best GF. :)

  69. I hope the new DelicateNews magazine theme will come with social media distribution system, similiar to the buttons above the posts in Who’Who theme. Was rather surprised not to find that in TheSource theme since it is meant to be a news site. Looking forwarding to the DelicateNews theme!

  70. Hi there! I really like these 2 new designs , hopefully i have a good destination for these.
Is there an option in LightBright to add extra custom category icons ?

But the one i am really waiting for is still MyApp theme , will it be released this week?

    Greetings from the Netherlands

  71. Love the themes – excellent work – glad to be a member! I deal almost exclusively with online video, so would love to see more themes like eVid – but with capability to use self-hosted video vs. embed codes from other sites. I figured out how to implement Flowplayer, as well as Tremor Media ads – but it would be nice if there was an easier option than what it took to get this to work. You can see the results at http://www.campfirecafetv.com/site/?page_id=2 if interested.

  72. Delicate News looks awesome.

  73. I want Lighbright now. Very minimalist.

  74. Hello Nick,

they look great has all your themes, thank you.
Are you thinking in the future to make a theme related with the monetization, marketing, afiliattion, etc (the make money blogs)?

    Best regards

  75. Looks good! Can’t wait for the DelicateNews Theme :)

  76. looks so finished already, you do great work and im going to be joining your website by tommorrow hopefully :), thanks so much

  77. Eleganttheme, you are what I have been searching for!

  78. Hello,

Will the top slider for the DelicateNews Theme also have the ability to have just one solid image; in addition to the 5 different images that are shown in the example above?

  79. l think would be great if we could ad google banners, search box etc nick

  80. Are you already working on the fantastic DelicateNews Theme? How it come???

  81. When you are going to relies NEWS theme, I am really interested in that. after relishing I will definitely be you member. Please tale me the date…. I am waiting…

  82. hi Nick, i was thinking when the light birght theme will come on, can you fill us with some details?

  83. Hi Nick,

Not sure what stage of development you are in Delicate News. It looks sensational.

However, ould you kindly add a few things to it if possible?

1.) As it’s a magazine type theme with possible multiple authors, could you add an about “ABOUT THE AUTHOR” footer at the bottom of each post that will have the author’s photo and description.

2.) Could you have an “About this Blog/Website” section on the main page that will have a short description of the blog? Perhaps on the sidebar or footer.

3.) For the header, can you permit it to have the site’s Logo/Icon, Site Name, as well as a tagline?

4.) Could you have a “Featured Videos” option for the main page?

5.) Where the orange “News” bookmark is (as in Delicate “News”), will we have an option to re-size that bookmark to whatever size we want?

6.) Lastly, for the top portion with the five photos, does that entire area function as a slider? And if so, can we manipulate it in terms of how it slides (gallery, cube etc), as well as the size of the area occupied by the photos?

    Many thanks!

  84. When well it be out!?!? When?! When?!

  85. DelicateNews Theme looks very very good. Hopefully you can release it soon. I’m looking forward to test it on my site

  86. I love both of them, delicate news would be great theme for my office website, while lightbright for a personal blog

by the way, will there be a GIF animation support for the delicate news header/logo?

  87. DelicateNews looks like a great theme – and I’ve actually got a project in mind that I’ll use it for.

Like everyone else, I’m wondering there is an ETA on these themes?

  88. Can you tell us which theme your releasing first delicatenews or lightbright? I’m really looking forward to seeing delicatenews first. You said, earlier that you will releasing one of them this week, any idea which day

    Thanks Nick

  89. I think all of your themes are beautiful pieces of art, on the inside and out.

I’m like everyone else, but I’m wondering when LightBright is being released. I’m starting a new site and I think it would be perfect for it.

    Thanks

  90. Hello Nick,

Thank you for the great work! Both themes look very nice.

Also wondering when these two themes will launch, because trying to plan some updates. Will they be available in the next day, or two, or more closer to a couple of weeks or so?

Also, will the LightBright Theme be only one solid color (example: green from top to bottom), or will the header area have a different color background from the body color of the theme?

    Thank you again …

  91. Nicely done. Can’t wait to see it working on one of my websites.

  92. hi Nick, i was thinking when the light birght theme will come on, can you fill us with some details?

    • It was released last week.

  93. Very nice work. Does the slanted menu also automatically change when the “real” menu is changed?
