In this episode of Divi Nation, the official Divi podcast, we sit down with Dave Cahill of River Net Computers in Frenchtown, New Jersey to talk about following your bliss. What do we mean by that? We mean identifying what makes you happy, what makes you laugh, what piques your interest and then following that trail in your work to unlock a way of life that’s true to you.

Divi Nation Episode 13: Following Your Bliss with Dave Cahill

The topic of this episode is something that to one extent or another I’ve talked about with every guest on the show so far. And it’s a theme I’ve been writing about on the Elegant Themes blog for as long as I’ve been writing here. The idea that as freelancers, solopreneurs, or even as entrepreneurs looking to scale up a full agency, we have the ability to create so much more than just a job.

We can bring together our personal passions, values, and talents to create a fulfilling way of life that also happens to be how we make money. For all the twists and turns Dave and I take during our chat, that’s what it’s all about in the end. I hope you enjoy it!

This Week in WordPress 11

In this edition of This Week in WordPress Dave Cahill and I talk about podcasting mics, healthy (and toxic) business relationships, as well as the difference (and importance) of UX and UI.

Following Your Bliss with Dave Cahill

In this interview Dave Cahill shares his story with us and talks about how following his interests and passions in life (instead of a pre-determined path) has made all the difference for his current business and in his personal happiness. We also goof around a lot.

Divi Quick Tip 09: Converting a Divi Menu Item into a Call to Action Button

In this Divi Quick Tip we show you how to turn a standard menu item into an in-line call to action button.

You can use this code to follow along:

<span class="et_pb_more_button et_pb_button">Register</span>
/*Menu CTA Button*/
#et-top-navigation .et_pb_button {
    margin-top: 0px;
    font-size: inherit;
    font-weight: inherit;
}

#et-top-navigation .et_pb_button:after {
font-size: 23px;
}

Production Notes

As always, below is the list of the software and gear used to create Divi Nation.

Due to the fact that I try to record my segments and interviews as far in advance as possible, when I make a change to the production value it may take an episode or two to take effect. Thankfully, this is the last episode with the old boom mic (used during any scene with the backdrop) and the camera settings.

Nick got us a great new boom mic to use and the sound I’m getting out of it after several tests is awesome. I can’t wait to share it with you all in the next episode. Where I’ll also be looking quite different in front of the backdrop due to a new lighting setup and camera settings.

I’m really excited about the new camera settings. The crispness of picture in comparison to everything we’ve done so far is amazing. A big step up. As for the lighting, it’s just time for a change. The look I’ve been going for is a bright, fresh look with enough gradient on the backdrop to keep things interesting.

Unfortunately we just don’t have the right lights for that and instead the backdrop looks a bit harsh and my face and body look dull in comparison. There’s a better balance to be struck and so we’ll be going for that moving forward.

As always, if you have any production related comments or questions feel free to hit me up in the comments section below and I will be happy to talk shop.

  1. Dave, I really enjoyed your podcast. I can relate to you as my children are homeschooled and I can understand how some young people wouldn’t like traditional school. You were much more suited for exploration. I am hoping my daughters will have the same level of independence you have had.

    Thank you for sharing such great tools. I am looking forward to trying them out. That Elizabeth Gilbert site is amazing!
