TheStyle Now Available on WordPress.com

Elegant Themes has been working with the folks at WordPress.com to help bring our themes their users. TheStyle is the first of our themes to be released on the WordPress.com platform, and we are excited to continue bringing more of our products into their marketplace in the future! For those who prefer to use the more automated system of WordPress.com to create their websites, you will be pleased to hear that more and more of our designs will soon become available to you :)

For those WordPress.com users out there, we would love to hear which themes you would most like to see added to their collection. Let us know what you think!

      • If you create a website using wordpress.com, you can choose the theme from your WP Dashboard, or when you signup and create your website.

    • Thanks, we think so too!

  1. Great News. Hope all themes will be available at WP soon!

    • We will do our best to get as many themes on wp.com as possible :)

      • Hey that is super! I would love to see Chameleon next ;)

        • We’ll do our best to get Chameleon added soon :)

  2. Gleam, Style Shop, Foxy, Memoir

    • Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately StyleShop would not work as wp.com does not allow the use of third party plugins.

  3. This is such wonderful news to hear! Congrats to Nick and Everyone at Elegant Themes! !!!

    • Thanks Erica!

  4. Explorable

    • Thanks for the suggestion!

  5. Congratulations Nick and the ET team! Just a few years ago we were making crappy skins for winamp and random software on Customize.org.

Very cool that you have made it to this point with your profession!

    • We have come a long way :)

  6. Wow! That’s really cool! Will definitely have a look at this one. Congrats and keep it up guys! :)

    • Thanks, we appreciate it!

  7. Great! Now get Foxy or Fusion out there and I might be tempted to switch! ;)

    • Thanks Michael, we will see what we can do about getting those themes added :)

  8. Nice work, an association with WordPress is the best way to become more famous around the WP world !

  9. Exciting! AskIt is the theme I would like to see available.

    • Thanks for the suggestion :)

  10. Great News!!!

    • Thanks, we think so too!

  11. Awesome news! That does make things a bit easier (especially for those of us, ahem, who haven’t learned how to use child themes yet!)…I would love for Trim, Evolution and Feather to be on the list since you’re asking!

    Congrats on your next step!

    • Thanks for the suggestions!

  12. Great news …… although. The template will become more mainstay now. To bad. I was so proud and happy to have this beautifull and yet functional template active. Will start looking out for something new.

    • Just because TheStyle is available for purchase on WP.com will not make in mainstay. The theme will be sold and not given away for free. In fact the use of premium themes on WP.com is tiny compared to the open wordpress.org market.

  13. This sounds good, but leaves us wondering…

Why pay for membership if the themes are going to be available on WordPress.com?

Seems there’s no longer any need to pay membership fees, so therefore makes no sense to renew?

    • WordPress.com is something very different than what we offer here. The point of paying for the membership is to get access to our entire collection of themes for $39, which can be used on as many websites as you like and can be used in any way that you like. If you want to go the wp.com route, it will cost your $68 for a single theme, and you will be locked within their system and unable to use any plugins or customize your theme. WP.com is just for people who can’t get passed the hurtle of registering their own domain name and hosting account and who don’t want or need the freedom that the open source community provides.

      • Thanks for clarifying! Your post should be sticky, so any others of us who might not understand; would get the scoop real fast :)

        Thanks again – Appreciated!!! :)

        • No problem. Happy to help!

      • Maybe a newbie question, but if we paid for the entire collection, do we get the same themes for free on wp.com? If not, do we get at least a discount?

        Would the shortcode plugins work?

        • No I am afraid not. wp.com is not our website and we have no control over such things. Sorry about that.

  14. See this sucks. Now every Tom, Dick and Harry will be able to use these themes. I already run into websites using ET fairly often.

Maybe if you came out with more than 1 theme a month it would make it a little better. I have seen your user base go from 50k to over 100k in a few years and yet, still only 1 theme a month.

Seems we are getting sold out.

    • I am sorry for maintaining steady sales over the past 5 years…but that is the point of any business. If we stop making sales, then we will be forced to close up shop and not making any new themes or theme updates at all. I am saddened to hear you say that we are selling out our customers and not providing value when we have continued to add more and more themes to our membership while still charging 1/2 the price of a single theme elsewhere. I think you are overestimating the theme’s availability on WP.com. TheStyle will not be available for free. Premium themes are sold on WP.com, not given away. They are more expensive and they are sold at a much slower and smaller rate than can be observed in the open wordpress.org market. The highest selling themes on WP.com only have around 1,000 people using them, which is minuscule when compared to the popularity of certain premium themes available for download.

      • I have absolutely no problem with you making more money or getting more users…. just seems if you are making more money and more users themes should be cranked out a little quicker. I have seen no improvement in speed of development of new themes in the 2 years I have been using ET. By the way I would pay more for faster development. Maybe your price is too low?

As far as how many themes sell on wordpress.com I have no idea. I just don’t want the sites I build with ET to become…. for lack of a better word “generic”.

        • Ryan, the more themes we make and the more customers we have, the more time it takes to maintain those themes and those customers. The biggest cost for us in time and money is keeping all 82 of our themes updated, and keeping all 180,000 of our customers happy. Most of the profits we make go towards hiring new tech support staff to maintain our community, and hiring new developers to fix bugs and update our themes. If we make more money from another source, like WP.com, then those funds will certainly go towards hiring more people, and perhaps new developers to work on new themes. There is no situation were us expanding and improving our profits would hurt our customers, so I am not sure why you are offended. I appreciate the input though!

          • Really my concern is the templates becoming mainstay.

I must say your tech support is really the best I have came across, especially for the price. I really do appreciate ET.

Just a thought though… Maybe have a 3rd price point. $399-$499 a year and you would get themes 3-6 months before anyone else and a guarantee of 2 themes a month. Arbitrary numbers, but this is something I would certainly buy.

Also maybe have design contests from ET users for upcoming and potential themes. Maybe this would help on development time.

  15. Great theme I always love your work Go on

    • Thanks Mohnesh :)

  16. There is now special coupon for subscribers of elegant themes .org themes that we could use to get TheStyle in the .com store is there?

    • I am afraid we do not have any discount coupons available.

  17. Interesting. I don’t like anymore WordPress.org because all the work avoiging hacking. I’m a user of Elegant Themes, but I’d pay for all the themes in WordPress.com and, at the same time, pay for a personalized domain for each blog. I don’t want to pay for hosting and do all that work…

    • With freedom comes responsibility. WP.com is extremely limited compared to what you can do with wordpress.org and all of the open source plugins available. However, you certainly need to be careful when installing plugins from untried sources. If all you need is a simple theme, no plugins and no customization, then WP.com is a great option and we are happy to have our themes available there :)

  18. Nick, (& team)

I would like to wish you well with the WP integration and hope to see Deep Focus on the list so that we can up date via the Wp dashboard.
Surely this will be the major advantage of the WP tie up?

As for those who moan?….Hey, “ya can’t please em all, just wish some of them would open their eyes to see the great value that you & the team provide”

    Best wishes

    Ian

    • Thanks Ian, we will do our best to get DeepFocus up there :)

  19. Great news, can’t wait until Nimble becomes available!
Just a question, why is one theme priced $68 while a membership, offering access to all themes costs $39?

    • The WordPress.com marketplace is a different ecosystem then our own. The product offering is much different, and the prices were based off the current prices that were already within their premium themes collection.

    • I’m glad it cost more on wordpress.com as helps keep our affiliate offers more attractive.

      • The best deal will always be for our customers here at ElegantThemes.com :)

    • Thanks Joe!

    • Thanks Michael!

  20. Great News…

and the other are coming soon or not?

    • The next theme will likely be Lucid or Origin.

  21. Great News! Thanks Nick. Hope InReview and more themes will be available on WordPress soon. I’m using InReview for my site and it works perfectly.

    • We will do our best to get as many themes up there as possible :)

  22. Modest, please! I’ve been holding off buying a membership because I can’t use it with wordpress.com.

My travel writer friend puts in a plea for Explorable – she’s in the same boat as me. She loves it, she wants it, but she blogs on wordpress.com, she’s not tech-y, and she’s intimidated by the complications of moving off wordpress.

  23. I read the above with interest, and would like to add the following.

In my opinion some of the negative comments here are very harsh. I’ve found the value for money with ET is tremendous. The access to numerous themes, including through the live demos, is invaluable when matching client requirements against the best themed solution. I’ve just delivered my first live site with an ET theme and I am hoping to follow up with many more.

  24. congrats to Nick and the ET team for this achievement
but Nick i would like to suggest something to this them , i love this theme and it’s theme i’m using for my website but i don’t know if i can continue to us it because the post page can not be in full-width form which is bad, i have tried to edit the signle.php and copied the full-page so that i can have a custom full-width post page which i was successful at but at the end i had another problem because the epanel layout setting has the comment page disable , i tried to enable it then all my pages(about, categories etc…) had comment box ,is there anyway for you in future to really make an option to have full-width-post the single post is not enough please if there is any solution for this let me know because i have put my website on hold so that i can figure out how to make the post full width with comment box without disturbing other pages that shouldn’t have a comment box

  25. Thats great.. so we can directly install from wordpress

  26. Congrats! Great work as always and it’s good to hear that the .com users don’t have to miss out on Elegant Themes anymore :-)

  27. Oh, I missed this back in April, but great news nonetheless :)

  28. Hi,
We’re stuck at version 2.5. Where can I obtain an update to the current version? Thanks!

  29. Hi there!
Is there a way to add the year below date and month on each article’s picture on the homepage & search page?
