Like everyone else, I started with a free theme since there are so many of them out there. I spent the next two years struggling with trying to add design elements to not so pretty themes, dealing with incompatible plugins and new nightmares with every upgrade of Wordpress.

The support alone is priceless! Worth it at twice the price, at triple the price!
I'll never again use anything but an Elegant Theme.
