Happy New Year, Divi Nation! 🎊

And may it truly be a happy new year! It’s hard not to fight the urge to cringe after hearing the traditional phrase, “Happy New year” (in light of the year we just ended). But, we must press on and be hopeful! 2020 proved that a reiteration to virtual did not dampen the tenacity of our wonderful community. And 2021 can only be better, amirite? I’m ready to start this new year and I’m ready to see what our beloved Divi Nation has in store!

But first, check out our current stats and community updates.

Even though we’re ready to attack 2021, let’s not forget our December happenings. As busy as December is for many parts of the world, it doesn’t stop our Divi meetups. Our communities get creative and host a few different types of meetups. A very popular format is to host a Holiday Social. When we were IRL, this format would call for attendees to meet at a restaurant or gastropub and simply get to know each other. This is one of the best ways to build relationships, which 🛎 🛎 🛎, is what builds great communities! And, obviously, we can’t meet in-person these days, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a wonderful virtual social still. One of our communities hosted a Divi Trivia game that went well! Perfect for virtual events!

Let’s see what our communities accomplished for their December meetups below!

This month’s meetup was a rocky one haha! We encountered an issue with Divi and anchor menus on an older version of the theme, but were able to figure out how to fix it AND still finished our meetup on time 🙂 We learned how to build a one-page website using Divi and WordPress. There was a short presentation at the beginning of the meetup on the fundamentals of a one-page website, as well as the steps to building one yourself. [As] usual, the recording of this month’s meetup appeared on the meetup website so that others can walk through it in their own leisure time.

Divi Brampton is so welcoming and desiring of growth. You should check them out.

Divi DFW closed our first year as an official meet-up group by talking about responsive design using Divi. The new “Responsive Previews” featured added in November’s theme update gave us the perfect opportunity to explore designing for mobile. We had a great discussion about how this new feature makes optimizing your Divi site for the world’s most popular devices a breeze. Here’s to another year of growth!

Our very informative and well attended December meetup, “‘Check Out’ the Divi Library”, was hosted by co-organizer Jeanine Polizzi. This presentation about the multi-faceted Divi Library was presented by Divi Atlanta co-organizer Cammy Farone. The fifteen attendees were from a number of Divi Meetups including Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and, of course, New York City. Also attending were some first time Divi Meetup attendees.

Cammy’s presentation covered the many uses of the Divi library and its saved layouts. Attendees participated in a lively discussion and we’re sure that everyone learned something new. Thanks to Cammy for the great presentation!

We are looking forward to our January presentation by Nelson Miller of PeeAye Creative, also know as “The Divi Teacher.”

This month Divi Seattle explored mobile optimizations. We started by reviewing the mobile responsive preview system that was released a few months ago. Then we explored internet resources for determining the viewport sizes of popular mobile devices. Next, we dove into Google Analytics to find out what screen sizes are actually being used by your website’s visitors. Last we reviewed a demo that we put together with a few different code examples on how to change column sizes and flow order for mobile devices. Overall this event gave our community a deeper look into what’s possible with Divi on mobile and made it easy to get started with further optimization.

Divi Seattle has great leadership and is building a great community. Visit this group!

The Divi-Tampa December VIRTUAL Holiday Meetup was held on Wednesday, Dec 16 at 1 PM EST. Our turnout was surprising, starting with just Raquel and myself online we mused about the possibility of no one else attending. About 15 minutes in, we were joined by Archna, a web developer in Tampa FL, then 15 minutes later, Ryan E joined us from Port St Lucie FL after Raquel had to leave. Steve, Archna, and Ryan continued the meetup and shared our screens and stories ranging from recent experiences with WordPress, Divi, setting up personal servers, and marching forth into this coming Holiday period with joy in our hearts. Looking forward to our next virtual meetup in January, and eagerly anticipating the time when our meetups may again be in person – maybe late Spring or early Summer?

Tampa would love your presence! They have wonderful leadership. Be sure to join!
