New Theme: Gleam

New Theme: Gleam

Gleam was built to dazzle. With its flashy effects and smooth ajax loading techniques, this theme creates a truly unique and engaging experience that is sure to grab your visitor’s attention. Allowing for custom full BG photos for each page, Gleam makes it easy to create a custom and stunning appearance for each section of your website. Gleam comes with all the standard features you look for in a website: pages, blog, portfolio, gallery, and shortcodes, but packages them in a way unlike any of our other designs.

Gleam allows for full background photos, as well as a full background portfolio page, allowing you to display your work full-screen and without any distractions. The theme also comes with a more standard gallery page template if you would rather use small thumbnails and a lightbox popup.

I know that this theme took a bit longer than usually to release, sorry about that! It was one of the more complicated designs that we have created, but I am quite pleased with how it turned out. Let us know what you think!

  1. Finally! Thank you!

    • Theme looks beautiful

      :)

    • Truly amazing. This is perfect for a site heavy on images.

  2. That is different, wild and should bring on the comments :) !!!

  3. now we’re talking. thanks nick!!!

  4. Great theme and very different. Can’t wait to download and use it for my next web project.

  5. Very beautiful and disconcerting theme. Great one !

  6. I know what I’m doing tonight….

    Thanks ET!

  7. YES YES YES YES YES! Time to go see if this will work for my music website! Sweet! Soooooooo freakin’ excited, you have no idea!

  8. Man, awesome theme. Thanks.

  9. As a developer catering to actors and performers, Gleam just simply changed my entire company. I’ve built dozens of clients’ sites on dozens of ET themes, each time trying to achieve what you’ve done here with Gleam.
As always – you blow me away.

The problem is, once I build a client on Gleam, I’m going to have 100 angry actresses on my hands asking me to rebuild theirs. So thanks alot Nick -

    • It really IS a great site for performers! That’s why I’m SO excited about it! Hopefully your clients won’t be too mad at you. ;)

  10. Wow! Simply breathtaking. Great job!

  11. Just amazing! Now I need to find a client to suit the theme :)

    Awesome work. Bloody awesome!

  12. There’s no documentation yet. Can you post that soon?

    • There is a little in the members area.

      • That’s the standard one’s for every theme.

        • I know. There are a couple of minimal extra paragraphs. I don’t think any theme comes with detailed documentation.

  13. I was blown away by this theme. Very impressive, must have involved a lot of time and hard work. Well done on a great theme, one of the best I’ve seen in a long while.

  14. That’s a stunning looking theme that can serve very well its purpose. Great work Nick & the team.

  15. Nice idea but full screen background pictures are cropped…….

    • Hey,
I’m dealing with this issue right now. Did you find a way to fix this?
Any kind of direction would be awesome.
      Thanks

  16. Wow. This is the same ‘theory’ behind my current non-wordpress website. It’s all about the photos. With this theme I can ditch the non-wordpress section and go completely WordPress. Brilliant! Thank you!

  17. have to change my pants ahah

  18. yeah! diferent and clean theme. Thanks!

  19. I know what I’m doing this weekend!

(Hanging out in the new Gleam Theme Support Forum — buggin’ the mods!!)

  20. Wow it looks pretty slick!
Might be very good for photography websites.

Thanks for your great work nick!

  21. Worth the wait!!!!

  22. Nice inclusion of Fullscreen WordPress Theme. Loving the simplicity it has.

  23. If Apple designed WordPress themes, this one might’ve been Steve’s “…one more thing.”

    Outstanding work.

    Frederick

  24. It’s not iPad friendly, at least the blog section, and safari iPad has crashed every time I try the theme, :-(

    • Also broken on Android and BB Play. iPad (as well as a few other tablets…)

Also broken in IE8 (at this end) images not displaying. Broken in Chromium here too.

      Not responsive design.

In my opinion, fabulous great concept and design! :) Wow!!! Super nice.

It’s a more complicated theme, it easily breaks across platforms (many of my clients love the theme when I sent them here to look, and many others said it was not working properly – These clients use IE 7, 8, 9 – Chrome – Safari – Firefox 9, 10, 11).

We’ve seen similar stuff on other theme sites, and the results were the same (compatibility issues).

Needless to say, as much as we love this theme, it rocks! :) We’re sad because it’s not something readily usable without some serious recoding to fix the mobile, cross browser, and lack of responsive design :( Which was a let down for us.

We love it, :) but cannot use it in a production environment :(

These things happen… And Elegant Themes is still tops!!! They rock! :)

      • @Riger This theme works for me on ie7,8,9, firefox 10 and chrome 17. The images are showing. Did your clients block javascript or 3rd party scripts (they are needed for to run the images)

        • Yes. Also they are clients, worldwide, using these browsers across platforms (like Linux, Mac, Windows).

We’ve run into this issue countless times (not just with this theme). It seems pretty much all themes we see using excessive scripting, etc. run into this issue. (And that would naturally be expected).

They primary issue, is that such themes are not mobile friendly. Mobile viewing of video content already surpassed the 50% mark (over desktop) last year, and analysts indicate mobile web browsing will also overtake desktops by early next year 2013.

While themes like this are great looking, and I like some of them, they are not the best solution for websites that want to remain current and competitive (seo, loading speed, platform friendly, etc.)

  25. Pretty full-screen background design, light loading then air and cool sliding, always your concept is different then other. Nice work ET :) Go on

  26. Outstanding. This should silence those who say your sites are more of the same.

    Great work!

  27. WOW – this is truly amazing. Love the full screen images + effects.

Can’t believe this is part of the membership to Elegant themes, seems like it should be a separate (costly) theme all together. Awesome.

Thank you so much for making it available.

  28. That is different… that is great!

  29. That is so impressive, you guys really did great on this one !!! Thanks a lot !

  30. Wow, Wow, Wow!!! This is an absolute gem!

So been waiting for a creative-portfolio theme for my photography blog. I’ll definitely be switching over to Gleam!

    Well done guys!!!

  31. Hmm, OK, after all those lookalike themes this is a step in the right direction. First impression after having installed and played with it:
I do not know what your target market was when developing the theme. Being a photographer there are still some serious issues to be addressed before I could use it (like keeping the ratio of the images untouched (!), even in full screen or being able to choose which EXIF data should be used to display).

The idea with the texture overlay is actually a good one (highly subjective opinion, of course ;-)
Also the theme looks really good and can be used on the iPad (not very well, but OKish …).
It’s a disaster on the iPhone, though.

Minor quirks that should be easy to get rid of soon, I shall think.
    Chris

    • Chris, I agree 100%.
There’s still issues to be worked out on this theme, and I’m sure they will be worked out. Having the theme crop my images is a show stopper. With the lack of direction from elegantthemes, I’ve been trying all different image ratios for the portfolio in a trial and error attempt to find the exact size that will stop the height clipping. I’m at 1000px for the width which seems to center the image (it’s left justified, so putting in an image 1400px wide will push the center of the image to the right. I’m sure it’s a setting in the code, however I’ve not gone there yet.

      • I crop all my images to 1920 x 955 and it seems to work perfectly, if anyone finds a better crop please tell me :) HTH

  32. Outstanding … I think you can really carve out a niche here producing designs like this which some of the larger theme guys wont do.

    AAA – this theme rocks!

  33. this theme is VERY nice!! Brilliant, those big photos in the background

  34. Very nice

    Can the Gallery be filtered?

  35. Wonderful Nick, just refreshed my website now with some css mods ;)

    Thank you ! Great !

    • hi, saw you version of theme, love the way you took out the more.png from the gallery. there should be an option in the theme to disable/able the zoom and more icons on the galleries. your site looks awsome a great use of the theme.

Im still working on mine. trying to figure out the best way to split each section of my portfolio and display it using the theme to its fullest. ie where to use the fullscree mode and the gallery mode.

  36. Nice work. Really cool.

I don’t know what you plan next, but FWIW, I am getting two kinds of requests lately:

    1. Marketpress type themes, for etsy + multisite type stores for various niches.

    2. Responsive designs, with a white-on-white design (maybe with light-gray elements), like Evolution. Specifically, I’ve been asked to come up with something like this: http://foodsense.is, which has some nice responsive elements with the menus and layouts, yet is really quite simple and usable for a variety of web sites. In fact, none of my clients want anything other than a responsive design right now.

    Like I said, FWIW…

  37. Looks fantastic, will be trying this on a new project for sure! Well worth the wait

  38. Awesome!

  39. Awesome. It’s along the InStyle theme design with a stunning background as the focus. It sure is eye-catching. It’s a beautiful as a Flash website without all the problems Flash websites have.

I think testing conversion rates of this theme for a business website would be interesting. It’s not as navigation intuitive as other ET designs; however, it sure dazzles visitors when they arrive.

Thanks for creating yet another unique theme. Too many theme developers crank out the same look over and over. You mix it up and offer a truly diverse set of designs and themes for distinct purposes.

  40. Mhhh look good, but this time I really don’t like the way it has been implemented.

It’s not responsive, it’s not iPad friendly (and this is my biggest concern: in 2012 you can’t publish a site that crash on a tablet!) and it’s extremely slow and sluggish even on my “old” Macbook Pro late 2007.

Also I don’t like the “simple”

    • Also I don’t like the simple look of the modal windows (with the “old style” X on the upper right corner!).

But at least it’s different from other themes.

I hope you will release soon a fixed version (mainly for the speed and the ipad issue).

      Thanks

  41. Yet another totally useless Elegant theme, not suitable for business or much else other than vanity project.

Membership will not be renewed, going to let it lapse until you produce a decent business theme or even two or three.

  42. Finally something different and a reason to renew my subscription!

  43. It would be nice to use it on my wordpress blog.

  44. Good things take some time ;-))

    Thanks for this different theme!

  45. I was away, and one of the first things I looked at on my return was this theme. I am ready to download. Yep, it was worth the wait.

  46. Finally! Absolutely stunning.

Worth the wait. Thanks to the Elegant Themes team!

  47. This theme is a great example of self-improvement. I congratulate you for this excellent outcome!

  48. it is awesome………….

  49. I agree that the its visually very pleasing.

Seems there’s some techinical stuff that’s still not working perfectly yet though.

Also when setting the permalink structure i got linkes that had /#!/ in them?

    • How did you resolve this problem?

  50. I thought it was supposed to have a new page builder.

  51. i kind of like the portfolio section. photography enthusiasts would definitely love this theme.

  52. This WP looks aweomse, very simple but really impressive, how did you design it??

  53. Seriously, its eye catchy theme, going to try it one of my blog.

  54. I’m using this theme for one of my projects and have to say, though it’s got some issues as mentioned by others on the support forum, for what I’m doing with it, it’s frikkin awesome and think it’s one of the most impressive to come from ET in quite some time! Great work!

  55. It’s a good theme.
    But now I need help.
I need to use a WordPress plugin.
The plugin name is “Add link to Facebook” .
I found it from WordPress plugin search.
I have already install it and start it.
But I don’t know how to show on my page.
Thanks a lot for your help! :)

    • Hi Naoki
The forum is the place to ask for help…..not here (-:
Love elegant themes, and will keep my membership, but having great designs without function make the use of many of the current themes rather limited. I’ve had to use catalyst and studiopress for flexibilty with design and themes that ‘work’. Please put more thought into the end user who loves your themes but really does want to use them.all the best

  56. what size should the background images be?

    • That is my question too. I just can not make it work and no image seems to work with this theme! Please help if you know the answer?
      Thanks

    • i used 1280 × 720 and it works fine for the background image.

  57. Best themes i have got latest themes from here..

  58. Wow! this is neet will give a shot for my new website about ペット霊園墓地 and ペットロス

  59. Wow this theme is absolutely brilliant!

    Thank you!

  60. Please some help! I love the theme but I have no idea how to make the picture sizes and resolutions work?

    • If you need help, please open a thread in our forums so that we can assist you.

  61. Wow, it looks amazing! Will give it a try soon.

  62. Any idea what the next theme is going to be and when it will be out?

    • I agree, missing the preview that is usually posted a week after a new theme is launched!

  63. Very nice job. As far as the photos, I really like the use of lighting. Quite film-like in quality.

  64. I would change the direction of the ajax loading, how can I do? and remove the bottom menu to put in the middle of the homepage, thank you.

  65. Just sending another hug for an awesome theme!

  66. Great looking theme but SO not worth the amount of headaches that come with it.

  67. Great theme, has something like the InStyle theme, great for a business website or for a personal website. Looks great. Thanks for the great job.

  68. have to try this and all the other themes..

  69. sorry, gotta be 100th poster. love, love, love this theme!!!

  70. How about a matchmaking theme?

  71. Oh great! I can’t wait to install this theme on my blog. Looks amazing! Kudos!

    LG

  74. woow ! awesome theme. Thanks.

  75. My sons just off to Italy to work and learn the language, and wanted a blog to document his journey. http://www.charliestevens.co.uk. I’ve used Gleam, just a few small tweaks, and up and running in no time at all… he’s thrilled with it and I think it looks awesome!

    • Yes, all of our themes are included in the membership.

  80. Hi there guys,
I saw few pages build on this theme. Really astonishing, but I noticed that all those pages have a crappy #! which, from my previous experience, makes a headache to build a proper gallery, any chance to remove that tag cause I really want to build my page on this superb theme.

    • I am having the same problem!

      • me too.

  81. anybody else having a problem with the main menu being ‘jumpy’? like when you mouse over a menu item, it kind of stutters?

the demo works great on the elegant themes site, but, on my site it’s jittery upon mouse over

    • I cannot get the home page menu to show on my ipad. and it is jumpy on every pc i have looked at. i like this but it is not functional so far.

      • If you need help, please open a thread in our support forums so that we can better assist you.

  82. Is it possible to put different background images on categories and on each post?

  83. Anyone figure out how to make the background work properly? The background image on the website is not resizing with the window. It stays at the same size, why??

  84. How do you add background music to Gleam theme?

    • Did you figure this out?

    • Hi Pedro, I’m having troubles making the full screen portfolio template to show up.. Could you tell me how you managed to make it in your conferences section of your website.
How does the conference page fetch the images with their titles and description?

  85. Hello! I need background images from this theme, where i can get them?? I am by this theme/…..

    • The background images used in the demo are just for demonstrations purposes and do not come with the themes (as outlined in our terms). These photos are copyrighted and cannot be redistributed. If you need these photos, you can purchase them from shutterstock.com

      • Can you give me any tags for this photo, how i can find them? Maybe names or numbers if you can… Thanks a lot…

  86. I trying to help a friend of mine with that theme, but we got a problem with the link in Chrome navigation…. when you try to use the main menu we dont get the url, beacuse he include a #! in the url… someone can help me?

    tnx

  88. I got it … it was the Plugin : FancyBox Gallery

    • I have the same problem with Chrome. How did you solve it exactly?

    • If you need help, please open a ticket in our support forms so that our team can assist you.

    • Hello Alex,

    • If you need help, please open a thread in our support forums so that our team can assist you.

  93. I was wondering…how does this theme perform on mobile?

  94. Great Theme for a Photography business just can get the Lightbox to work on my wedding gallery. Any Ideas?

    • This theme SUCKS on the iPhone. What’s the point since so many users visit website using their handheld devices??

  95. Hi, I’m not sure if this is the proper place to insert questions but here it goes. I am seriously considering buying this theme, it’s gorgeous, but a few concerns are holding me back.

    1. Cannot finger swipe on tablets and phones to scroll. Although scrolling is easy enough in browsers, you literally have to click on the scroll bar itself to move down on other devices. Plus, since the theme automatically resizes to the viewing device, cutting off almost all text on pages, scrolling is a serious issue. Is this something you can easily remedy inside the theme’s options?

    2. Is there a way to add drop down (accordion style) sublinks on the main nav bar? My website’s plan entails grouping services in the main nav, which drop down into specific examples. (Also, I realize the nav is on the bottom, so “drop up” would be a better term I guess.)

    3. Can you make the background image a slideshow?

Again, gorgeous theme. I just wanted to check on these questions before purchasing, thanks!

  96. Hi
I want to make the first page of my homepage like the same one with the demo version.
    however, i can’t make it
please check my website(http://omkim2012.cafe24.com/), and you could see the awkward black blank page..
I want to make a category drop down list, like the demo version.
    please give me an advice!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • If you need help, please open a thread in our support forum so that our team can assist you.

    • I’m under construction, using this theme. It’s amazing but super slow. I don’t know if it’s FAT COW (my server) or what. Other than that, I’m trying to find a way to just use the LOGO area for a logo, not for my primary navigation. I want a navigation bar either at the top, or at the bottom. Essentially, I want my page to operate like this: http://www.whyiwatch.com. :)

  97. I prefer Twenty Twelve By WordPress team it is simple and support 100% of mobiles

  98. Hi – the Gleam Theme has crashed the site numerous times now even with different install so can only assume something not compatible with latest or something has corrupt – all other themes are fine so you may want to have a look! Damn Shame as the theme looked great – it was working the last install but this time – no dice!

    • Sorry to hear that. Have you tried disabling all of your plugins and are you using the latest version of the theme? If you open a ticket in our support forums then I am sure we can assist you.

  99. Hi there,

Is there any chance that this will be mobile enabled in the near future?

  100. I am having problems with the Contact form.. I have it set up perfectly, new page, chose the contact template under et, entered the email address properly.. but i’m getting nothing but crickets.. no emails ever, checked spam folder too.

Can someone please have mercy? I de-activated all plugins just to ensure no compatability issues.

  101. Hi, the theme works fine. I have problem with the google chrome navigation. It shows #! in the url and does not go the particular url when clicked. Please help to solve the issue.

    Thank You.
