New Theme: eNews

It has been a common request that I make an elegant and professional “news” theme. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what people mean when they call a design “magazine” or “news” style, but to me it simply means creating a theme that can present a lot of content on the homepage in a clean and userfriendly manner. Unlike my previous release (Bold), which showcased a more stylized and abstract design, eNews is a exercise in crispness and subtelty. I tried to make it simple and orginized with an attention to subtle details. You can preview the theme here, or check out the gallery page for more info.

Features

1. Increased Control – This theme was co-developed by Yuriy, one of ElegantTheme’s main forum techs. With two minds at work there was more time to focus on the theme’s backend, which resulted in some new options not previously seen in my other themes. For example, even the Featured Articles slider on the homepage has several variables that can be adjusted, including 1) Choosing which category to use for your featured articles display. 2) Choosing whether to enable/disable featured articles as a whole 3) Deciding whether you would like featured articles to be excluded from the main loop on the homepage. 4) Adjusting the animation type used when switching between articles. 5) Enabling/disabling auto rotation of featured articles 6) Changing how fast the articles auto-rotate if enabled 7) Choosing how many featured articles to display, and more. In the future I hope to continue to expand on my theme’s backend and give similar control to all aspect of the blog.

2. Custom Fields No Longer Necessary – If you don’t want to add thumbnail custom fields to all of your posts then you can enable automatic thumbnail detection, which will grab the first image in your post and use it to generate your thumbnails.

3. Multiple Color Schemes – eNews comes with 5 color schemes to choose from, including Blue, Turquoise, Purple, Green and Red. You can switch between color schemes at any time via the eNews Theme Options Page.

Overall I think you will notice an improved user experience when setting up this theme due to the backend changes, and I hope to continue to improve my theme’s userfriendliness in future updates.

Please let me know what you think of the design, I appreciate your comments!

  1. Theme looks super awesome. Keep up your good work :)

    • Yea Right its wonderful looking magazine

but i think the navigation should be some thing better than this

      • Nice theme. It can easily be edited by anyone right so those who use it can edit it to fit their needs.

        • nice theme,
          keep em coming.
Looking forward to have more magazine/news layout in future themes release.

  2. Awesome, this theme is very useful.

This theme uses the same plugins as the rest?
Because don’t come (plugins) in the package

    • This theme does not require any plugins, though wp page navi has been integrated if you choose to use it.

  3. Wow, that’s gorgeous. Nice job.

  4. Beautiful and original looking theme.

One small issue when viewing on Mac OS with both Safari and Firefox. What I see in my browser on the demo looks different than the screenshots. The Featured Articles slider text is getting squashed as if its in a narrow column causing the text to extend down past the slider area.

Latest Mac OS X, Safari 4.0.3, FF 3.5.2

    • Thanks, I fixed the problem with the slider text.

  5. Wonderful work!

I thinking to use this theme on “Famous Bloggers Club” as I am using a theme from Elegant Themes collection too but temporary!

I believe this theme will make looks just great, what do you think? maybe someone could help on that and tell if if eNews theme is going to look good and pro on an interviews blog?!

  6. Amazing work!!!

This is going to be used in my next project using CityNameDailyNews.com CityName being replaced with a certain city here in Florida.

  13. Great news Premium WordPress Theme, Also photo style.
Beautiful and original looking theme. :)

  14. Hey Nick-
Have to say that this is my absolute fav so far, even topping eBusiness. Just a quick question (which will be reposted in the forum when the section is put up): What is the standard size images should be for this layout for everything to fit nicely?
    Thanks in advance.

    • If you want to keep it simple a 300x300px image should work pretty well in all areas. If you want to get more specific I might go with a 291x172px image.

  15. Nick, i have to say man. I always come on and drop a comment on a theme i think looks good, but this is f**king amazing.

The color schemes are amazing. The colors are nice and soft, really smooth on the eyes, and everything just works perfectly.

Just want to say, well done man, one of the best out of the lot. In my eyes. Keep up the good work man.

    • Thanks Anto, I appreciate the frequent comments. Thanks for stopping by and giving your input with each release :)

  16. really great theme.

i found a bug when i saw my page using Mozilla Firefox.

into the features articles section the image is ok but the text of the post isn’t on the right side of the photo…!!

you can check it on my test page http://www.ipedia.gr

with Opera browser everything is ok!!!

    • Hey temoblog,

The standard theme works fine in FF, I think looking at yours, you have the text in the wrong style. You may want to compare the CSS against the basic one and yours.

      Hope you get it sorted.

      Steve

      • but i don’t make any change to CSS files.

    • These problems have been resolved, please check your forum post for more details.

  17. Looking good, but there’s still one flaw (with all ElegantThemes themes)

Frontpage headlines are all partial, even in large Featured Articles box.

Don’t you think it’s bad for SEO?

  18. Bloody ripper of a theme!

Cheers again for all your hard work guys and making us all happy ;-)

  19. Hi Nick,
Another great quality WP theme. The consistency in your quality is fantastic and one of the reasons I continue to be a member.

    Great job.

    Steve

  20. Very nice theme Nick. With this one you surely got me.
I’ve been waiting for months for something like that.
    Simple, white and elegant.

  21. awesome dude… as always.. a great job.

    congrats!!!

  22. It’s absolutely fantastic and I can’t want to play around with it! Thank you so much! Keep up the amazing work! :D

    • Oops! I meant I can’t WAIT to play around with it. See? I’m so excited I can hardly type correctly. I am fairly new to the elegant themes community but so far I am extremely impressed and have spread the word to everyone I’ve come across who is looking for quality themes.

  23. Excelent work, Congratulations,

    Molto buono, grazie

Excelente trabajo, lo voy a probar inmediatamente, fantastico lo que estaba buscando.

  24. Are incompatibility with the Adsense Manager plugin, when turn on, stops working panel management theme.

    Sorry for my english :P

    • This means that the plugin is injecting javascript into the entire wp-admin area, which would account for the conflict. This is not a good practice. I have no control over this – their plugin should only call the javascript files while viewing their options page. Instead their code is being placed into the eNews options page as well, which messes things up. Unfortunately I have no control over how the thousands of plugins out there are coded, but you could always try contacting the creator and suggesting that they revise it.

  25. ofcourse, only said to be aware, I think we could turn off the plugin to set the theme, once the configuration is ok, re-activated the plugin and ready ;)

  26. Good! I Suggest Adsense in Top side of the Logo, and adsense in maneger Ads.

    ;) Very Good

  27. Very nice. I like the cleanliness of the whole design. Keep up the good work!

  28. Absolutely excellent. Awesome theme. Keep up the good work.

  29. Another sweet ass (READ: quality) theme. Thanks man. Can’t wait to dig into this one.

  30. good theme, is really cool. but one suggestion, the previous post nad older post navigation is not visible clearly in that given colour. some new ppl could nt find. can u customize it

  31. nice theme, thanks :)

  32. Finally jquery.cycle is replacing scrollTo. I must say it’s now much better for the eye yet still give options to those who’d like to stick with the scroll effect :).

“heard” that you are working on the themes update?
Please!!! update ePhoto to use jquery.cycle, I am really hoping to see it without getting my eyes tired.

    Thanks for the good works

  33. amazing as ever!

keep it up nick, i did not knew u had already released it!

    thanks a lot

  34. Awesome work as usual. very nice.

Am I missing something, I logged into my account and do not see it available for download?

    • nevermind – I don’t know what happened but I logged back in and now its there with the Bold theme showing, which is also nice

  35. Wonderful, I am running it now on my Famous Bloggers Club!

  36. I’d love to use it on a site in Portuguese. Has anyone managed to translate it to either Spanish or Portuguese? Any tips on where to start?

    • If you need help please open a thread on the support forum so we can assist you.

      • Hi again Nick… There was no problem (I guess), as I started posting the image took its place, now is fine :)

Now I understand what you mean about open a thread on the support forum.

Well, your Themes are awsome, this eNews just came on time for one.

Thanks Nick, you are the Man!!!

  37. The themes get better and better.
I’m still going for eBusiness because it’s set up for a CMS type website… but if I didn’t want the CMS, this would be my choice.

    keep up the great work.

  38. wow theme is really clean and nice, is there any option in admin to remove the top posts in body with pics?

  39. I’m thinling of purchasing this theme. Can video be inserted into this theme?

  40. As usual really fine work. If possible, I would love to see you do a template that would be suited for a podcasting/audio type of site. I think there are many who would benefit from a site dedicated to this type of functionality.

    Thanks for your great work.

  41. Very Good !

  42. Greats theme thanks. This is a real magazine theme.

  43. I want to know what to use in custom fields in enews theme, can i know what to type in custom field with image URL.

    • You need to type in the URL to your desired thumbnail image. If you have questions please open a thread on the support forum so we can assist you.

  44. I am a big fan of your themes and highly recommend to all my friends. But I feel you need to optimize the images png optimization tricks to improve loading times and faster websites

  45. Hello, I’m very interested in this theme but before subscribing I would like to know what does it happen when you post news with no images. In your theme’s preview homepage, every post has got images, so everyone has a square thumb on one side or a rectangular down. In my blog I’ll have images but also several posts without any image so how would they look?
    Thanx a lot, kind regards,
    Francesco

  46. What is the best photo gallery and flash video plugin for this theme? Thanks !!

  47. hello friends,
great work! we like your themes here in germany, too :)

  48. Is there a preview of this theme using the blog style layout?

  49. Hello @ all
I like 90% of this Theme. But the Header could be a little more stylish. I tryed on my Website by using other buttons and pics. I’m still looking for a Theme with a bigger Header picture.
    Kind regards from Switzerland
    Pet

  50. Hello, I don’t know that happens, when I publish a new issue IN FORUM, mark my mistake, so I write here:

What should I do to show adsense only to users who are not registered and logged in?

I have this code but I don’t know where to apply

    ; ADSENSE CODE HERE ;

      • One more tray :P

        < ?php
        if ( is_user_logged_in() ) {
        echo ‘Welcome, registered user!';
        } else {
        echo ‘Adsense here';
        };
        ?>;

  51. It’s simple, clean and nice. Greats theme. This is look a real magazine theme. s there a preview of this theme using the blog style layout?

  52. Your theme´s are absolutely beautiful!! I´m sure to use one or two for my blogs in future.

Another question: I am planning an upgrade of an older website of my friend. Since he has also a WP Blog, I thought to use his blog as his new website.

Would it be possible that you modify one of your themes (have to choose one before) a bit?

If possible we could talk about some requirements to the site.

    Would be nice!

    Kind regards from Berlin

    Daniel

  53. Anyone know if this theme (and any of the other elegant themes) can be coded to accept a 300-250 cube ad, or a 160×600 ad?

  54. Hi! I would like to ask for support. The theme doesn’t display adsense when I put them in theme options – advertisement. Is it possible to use it in this way?
    Thanks

  55. Awesome, this theme is very useful.

  56. Hello !

I have a problem with the featured slider : no matter what size are the images, there’s always that white fade that comes across the text.

    Please help, I’m a little desperate here : )

    • Hi! I have the same problem! Did you figure out how to fix the featured bar problem? Thank you!

    • I found that giving the element a high z-index number brings it in front of the overlay.
      In style.css go to the /*—————–[FEATURED SLIDER]————–*/ section and add this code: #featured-area p{ z-index: 1000;}

  57. Hello,

I like to join and have access to the themes. But before that I would like to know if it’s easy to change the font (type) for your themes.
Can this option be found easy in the css codes for someone who isn’t an expert?

    Thanks for your help.

    Piet.

  58. hi,I just want to ask, a very simple question, but sorry if it’s become some silly question.

Just install this theme, and it’s look so awesome! I like it.
But I didn’t know how to change the image (NEWSBLOG — that write in the themes), I try to find in my wordpress and still can’t find the link?

I wanna change it, with my logo.

    Could you help me? thanks.
    with some tutorial might be.

    Sorry, just a beginner here.

  59. I used this theme, I would like to ask how to replace image logo to plain text of enews theme

  60. It’s impossible to see the comments into my posts with this theme. I’ve tried to desactive all my plugins but nothing happen. Someone have the same problem?

    Thank you so much!!

    • If you need help, please open a thread in our support forums so that our team can assist you.

  61. Hi,

The featured post data are successfully loaded into the slider-area but it just not animating.
Here is the used code. The slider work fine when the locate_template function is removed.

Do you know any reasons that cause this problem. TQ

    • If you need help, please open a ticket in our support forums so that our team can assist you.

  62. Figured it out– the issue occurs when the image for a featured post is not the expected width. Workaround is to just make the images/featured-overlay.png file a completely transparent image rather than the white grad.
