One of the stand-out features of our themes is the large collection of shortcodes that come packaged with each. These shortcodes make it easy to build advanced layouts and advanced elements that would previously take many lines of complicated HTML and Javascript to create. But what if you wanted to use these shortcodes on any WordPress installation, no matter what theme you where using?

Today we have added a new plugin for download in the members area called Elegant Shortcodes. Installing this plugin will make our shortcodes collection available to you even if you don’t have one of our themes installed. Now you can make use of these awesome tools no matter what theme you are using.

Here is an example of the default 2011 Theme displaying a few of our shortcodes.

Beautiful & Free Social Media Icons

I had some free time yesterday, so I decided to make some fresh new icons! Throughout my years as a web designer, I have always had trouble finding beautiful icons with no licensing restrictions to use in my templates. It’s especially difficult to find GPL-licensed (open source) graphics that can be used in WordPress Themes. Today I am pleased to release our second open-source social media icon set, for free! This set includes thirty-five 32×32 icons in PNG and PSD format. You can use these icons however you like. There are absolutely no restrictions. I hope that you resell and redistribute them in your themes and plugins. If you post these icons for free on your site, it would be great if you could link back to this post!

This social media icon set includes icons for the following applications:

Everything You Need To Know About ET

Today we have launched a new theme documentation page that will serve as a growing knowledge base for everything Elegant Themes. My main goal is to improve the users experience for new customers by creating a collection of helpful articles, videos, common problems and helpful resources. This documentation page will continue to grow with time, but even in its infancy I think that it will prove quite useful for new users. Let us know what you think. New Video Tutorials Now Available

As part of our ongoing effort to improve theme usability and heighten user experience, we have been developing a series of videos tutorials to help new customers better understand the many features that come with our themes. While the creation of these videos is an ongoing process, and we still have many more to make, I am pleased to announce that today, three new videos have been added to all of the theme readme files. These three videos explain some of our latest features: Page Templates, Shortcodes and Sample Data Importing. There are many more videos to come, so I hope everyone enjoys the few we have made so far. Be sure to let us know what you think. Were the videos easy to understand? Did they give enough in-depth information about each feature? How would you rate the production quality? Any ideas you have to improve these videos are appreciated!

A New Set of Video Tutorials Coming Soon

We are always looking for ways to improve the user experience of our customers. Usually that means making improvements to the themes themselves, but sometimes external additions are just as important. To help make our themes even more userfriendly, we have begun working on a new and extensive video tutorial collection that will be available to all members. These videos tutorials, created by our friend Bryan Zimmerman, will greatly expand on the ones already available, and will cover simple to advanced issues. To give you an idea of what’s to come, here is an example of one of the videos we are working on that deals with editing the logo graphic that comes with each theme.

This post isn’t just to inform you of our plans, but also to poll the community and find out what tutorials you would like to see most! What part of using ElegantThemes did you find the most confusing and what types of tutorials can we develop to make things easier for you? Please leave a reply if you have any input. Your suggestions will surely affect what tutorials are created!
